My Priorities for Newtown’s Future
-
Resolving the Police Chief Dispute with Transparency and Respect
I propose that we bring the 16-month legal dispute with Chief Tom Synan to a close in a way that repairs relationships, restores trust, ensures transparency, and strengthens how Newtown is governed. My plan would resolve the case without further costly litigation, correct past pay inequities, publicly reaffirm Chief Synan’s good standing, and implement lasting ethics, transparency, and governance reforms — including conflict-of-interest safeguards, regular committee meetings, and annual public reporting. This is a path to heal divisions, protect taxpayers, and focus on serving our community’s future.

Transform the Capped Landfill into a Community Asset
Newtown’s old landfill may be closed and capped, but it shouldn’t remain a question mark in our landscape. I will push for a proactive plan to turn this site into something beneficial for the community – whether that’s green space, recreation, or another use that fits our village’s character. By working with environmental experts and listening to residents’ ideas, we can ensure this former dumping ground becomes a safe, useful place. Imagine turning a past problem into a point of pride for Newtown.
-
Bring Newtown’s Vision Plan to Life
We already have a community-driven vision plan – now it’s time to act on it. I will fight to prioritize real projects from that plan, like sprucing up our village center, improving storefronts, and enhancing public spaces, so the plan doesn’t just sit on a shelf. Every small step, from new sidewalks to beautification efforts, will move us closer to the thriving, vibrant village we outlined together. Let’s turn our shared vision into tangible progress that every neighbor can see and feel.
-
Establish Effective Transparency
I believe in inclusive governance where every resident can see how their priorities are reflected in the work of council and in the decisions we make together. By keeping information current, holding open and well-publicized meetings, and providing clear explanations of council actions, we can create a government that is accessible, accountable, and easy to understand. I will continue engaging with residents in every neighborhood, bringing those conversations into the council chamber, and ensuring that decision-making is visible and connected to the community’s voice.
-
Represent the Concerns of all Neighborhoods
Whether you live in River Hills, Ivy Hills, near city center, near Short Park, or near Moundview Park, your council should represent YOU. There are some things we’d all like to see, like making sure our village is thriving, bringing our community together, and keeping our neighborhoods safe.
As I’ve been talking to residents across Newtown, it’s clear that our different neighborhoods have different needs! I commit to listening to all needs and ensuring the voices of residents in every part of Newtown are heard by the council.

Tackle Traffic Congestion and Improve Safety
Our community faces growing traffic, especially along Main Street and other key routes, and we all feel the frustration. I’m committed to working with county and state officials on smart solutions – from better timed lights and redesigned intersections to exploring alternate routes that ease bottlenecks. We can make our streets safer for pedestrians and drivers alike without losing our small-town charm. By tackling traffic head-on, we keep Newtown accessible and safe for everyone, reaffirming the friendly village feel we cherish.
